Happy Halloween in Harajuku, Tokyo!

The biggest event in October, especially for kids,?should be Halloween. Unfortunately, the custom of trick-or-treating is not widespread in Japan, but still there are ways to enjoy the event. One is going to Tokyo Disney Land :?Halloween events are on from Sep.9 to Oct. 31. If you are to enjoy Halloween in the urban area, there is a parade in Harajuku and Omotesando. This parade is for costumed children under age 12, including trick-or-treating, and other attractions.? Characters will be in the parade too! Sightseeing on Jinrikisha

If you have been to Asakusa, Tokyo, you may have seen something like the photo above. This is a Jinrikisha (篋阪??荵?), or sometimes called Rickshaw.? Jinrikisha literally means ‘human power vehicle’. The runner draw a two-wheeled cart (this cart is the Jinrikisha), which seats 1 or 2 persons. Jinrikisha was mainly used for transportation until the early 20th century, but recently, it is solely used for sightseeing.??It is often seen in cities which still have the typical Japanese streetscape, such as Kyoto, Kamakura, and Asakusa. The runner, called Shafu (荵?紊?, literally ‘vehicle man’), will often be your tour guide, as well as your driver.? While running through the historical streets, you will also obtain knowledge about the area. Jinrikisha in Asakusa are usually waiting for customers around the station or Sensoji Temple (羌????絲?).? Hachiko Statue in Shibuya

When you visit Shibuya, you will probably be overwhelmed by the congestion.? Among all the crowded places, the most crowded might be the area around the statue of Hachiko. The statue is in memory of Hachiko, a dog, who was very faithful to his master, and followed him to the station every day when he took the train to work. One day his master didn’t return home, and Hachiko waited at the station for 9 years for his master’s return.? He died there waiting for him and a memorial statue was erected in 1934. ?The current statue dates back to 1948. Shinto Shrine in Akasaka, Tokyo

You may see many Shrines when walking around Tokyo.? Toyokawa Inari?(莟?綏?腮画??) is one of them, located in Akasaka. Toyokawa Inari is a Shrine in Aichi prefecture, constructed in 1441.? The branch temple in Tokyo was founded in 1828, and was relocated to the current location in 1887. Toyokawa Inari is dedicated to Inarishin (腮画?欠??), god??of fertility, rice, agriculture, foxes, industry and success. Toyokawa Inari is also famous for Inari-zushi (????????絲水??) which is sold on-site. Inari-zushi is a kind of Sushi, but quite different from Sushi that is well known: vinegered rice is wrapped with sweet Aburaage (羃号?????, deep-fried Tofu).?
